It had been perfect Napa Valley picnic weather when Nancy Jones and Richard Barron entered the world-famous Dean & Deluca gourmet grocery. After an hour browsing and selecting one sumptuous morsel after another, they emerged into a heavy downpour. Refusing to let this dampen their spirits, Nancy & Richard dashed through the rain to the back of their van. Once safely inside, they spread out their blanket, switched on the radio, and began feasting on an exquisite selection of fine wine and cheeses. For 20 years, she worked in college administration at several universities, culminating in the position as Dean of Students at Woodbury University. There she became a respected professional in the world of academia. “I loved being immersed in the world of education,” she says, “and I learned as much as I taught.”

After earning his degree in civil engineering, Richard served as an officer in the Navy’s Civil Engineering Corps, developing innovative solutions for the operation and maintenance of Navy hospitals all over the world. He so enjoyed the problem-solving aspect of his work that he then embarked on a successful civilian career in facilities management, eventually serving as an independent consultant and advisor to universities across the U.S. The two met when Richard was consulting at Woodbury.
